Our Covenent Commitment
We as the church are committed to teaching people the Bible as God's Word to all and to be and do everything that Jesus said. We do this by presenting a vision of God's goodness and life in God's kingdom, expecting intention on the part of those who commit to be Jesus' disciples (apprentices), and equipping them in the means or methods that will help them to live a transformed life. Those who commit to this covenant are committed to living in this abundant life.
We commit to empower each other in the following areas:
We will cultivate our relationships with God (Communion)
...by participating in worship and practices that celebrate our unique identity as God's people, including but not limited to our worship gatherings.
...by committing to practice personal spiritual disciplines such as practicing prayer on a daily basis, regular times of Bible study and meditation, and times of solitude and reflection.
...by learning and practicing corporate spiritual disciplines with others such as entering an intentional relationship that assists in fostering spiritual growth (e.g. Friend, Mentor, or Spiritual Director), and taking advantage of this church's biblical teaching and groups designed to equip and encourage me in deepening my relationship with God.
As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love. John 15:9-10
We will share God's love with others (Community)
...by living a life of hospitality which includes practices such as opening my life to others in a small group community setting and sharing meals with others.
...by encouraging and serving one another by living the life of a steward - sharing my finances, gifts, and talents with the church.
...by living in unity and fellowship through speaking with encouragement and refusing to gossip, and seeking reconciliation with those that I may have hurt or who have hurt me.
My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. John 15:12-13
We will serve the community and world around us (Commission)
...by becoming co-laborers with Christ in His mission to reconcile and transform the world with practices such as intentionally sharing our faith in the hope of the gospel with others; praying for our family, friends, neighbors, community, and world; listening and becoming aware of other people's stories; and participating with Christ through mission trips, local ministries, our neighborhoods, our workplaces, and our friends; and inviting and teaching others to live the life of a disciple of Jesus.
...by partnering with other like-minded churches.
...by encouraging the starting of other churches and kingdom-focused ministries.
...by global involvement with God's mission around the world.
When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me. And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning. John 15:26-27
Having entered and received God's kingdom here on earth, and making a commitment to Jesus as Lord and Savior, and having been baptized, I choose to unite with this faith community, in the transformational journey of being formed into the likeness of Christ. In doing so, I intentionally commit myself to God, to others, and to the world around me.
