Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:18-20
For many years, we all have been inventing new ways to bring people to our church (the building). How can we create a Showtime Sunday that would bring in the masses? Jesus didn't worry about attracting people to his sermons. There were no mass mailings, "Come this Weekend as Jesus begins his new message series! Don't worry about lunch we have plenty of fish and bread!" Jesus didn't get to the mountainside early to set up the projector and power point slides. Jesus did, and taught others to Go out and bring the Church (the body, relationships, love) to the people. It is time for us to move from an "attractional" frame of mind and venture into the excitement of a "missional" frame of mind. Now Go!
Have you ever thought about being "missional" on a daily basis? Or how about being the Church on a daily basis? Most of us think of Missions in a programmatic way. What "programs" at my church can I serve in? Maybe I can set up chairs on Sunday morning? Taking the Love of God, and sharing that with the people around us each day is exactly how we can do that.
Like reading the morning paper, browsing the headlines while we wait in line at Starbucks, or getting a quick stock-market outlook on the scrolling strip from a cable news program; we can start our day with a daily dose of the "Good News." Talking to God (out loud) in the car on the way to work (don't worry, with the invention of the blue-tooth headset, no one will think you're crazy), reading one verse and replaying it through your head throughout the day, and asking God to create opportunity throughout your day are great ways to start.

"Financial Crisis Cure"
People are hurting. People are losing jobs. Retirement gone. Stress higher. Jesus said,
"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money. Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?" (Matthew 6:25-26)
No matter where you fall on the financial crisis spectrum, you can help. Here are a few tips to bring into your daily routine. Some will require huge portions of faith and resources, some will be a good starting point. This won't be easy, ask those around you for help and support.
-
Pray for our government, leaders, and those who are greatly affected
-
Continue to be faithful to God with your finances
-
Take time to just listen to someone who is struggling right now
-
Offer them help through a professional referral, tips (point them in the right direction
-
Share your experiences through empathy
-
Ask that person for a specific prayer request, pray for them right then and there
-
Tip your server well (that means 20% or more!)
-
Ask your server, or other strangers you face for prayer requests
-
Buy someone lunch
-
Buy someone gas (a whole tank)
-
Give someone an interest free loan (no one else is today)

Take Go one step further and get involved in a Go Project. SHC as a body of Christ followers, is looking to invent new ways to reach out to our community. If our church ceased to exist tomorrow, would anyone even notice? Go projects create an opportunity to get involved serving the community and to see where God can use your skills to touch the lives of others.
Whether you are a Go Project Architect or just someone volunteering some of your time, you will see God at work. Check out upcoming projects and let us know if you have any ideas on how to reach our community.

"Joseph's House Gardening Project" 10-18-08
Joseph's house is a transitional shelter for veteran men age 21 and over, located in Santa Ana. Thank you to everyone that donated flowers and also to those who donated their time on Saturday morning. The project was a great success and the front porch at the Joseph House is now full of color.

Stuck in the Orange County Bubble? According to a local Real-estate website, Orange county (if it were it's own country) would be the 33rd richest country in the world. It's hard for any of us to understand the difficulties of those living outside the US. We can go on vacation to a place like Jamaica, stay in the finest beach front villa at an all inclusive resort, and never even know that it is considered a third world country.
Taking our resources, time, and the Love of God to another country is something that is foreign to us (no pun intended). As a church we do not have an extensive history of global focused ministry. GOing Global is not only something we should do, but it is something that Jesus commissioned. We need help here. Where do we start? Where do we go?
